What books do I have checked out, and can I renew them?

View List of Checked Out Items

After you log into your library account follow the link which indicates the number of items you have checked out. If you have no items checked out in the automated circulation system, there will be no link. When you bring up the list of items, you can see titles, call numbers, and due dates. In the status column, in addition to due date information, you can see whether an item has a hold on it (someone else wants the book). Items that have holds on them must be returned by the due date to avoid the $4/day recall fines.

You can sort the items by due date and click on the title to see a complete record of the item in the web catalog.

Renewing Materials

Log into your library account (see instructions), bring up the list of items checked out, and choose the "renew all" command.

We recommend that you choose to renew all items checked out, rather than choosing certain titles. Please note there are reasons an item may not be eligible for renewal, and you are still responsible for returning your items by the due date listed. See below for an explanation of why renewals may not be given, and instructions for confirming Summit (Orbis) renewals.

An item may be ineligible for renewal because:

  • An item is from a collection which doesn't allow renewals. Materials checked out from most restricted collections may not be renewed. Examples include reserve items, and equipment from Media Services.
  • An item has been renewed before. Each renewable item may only be renewed once, and then must be brought in for recharging (check in, then checked back out to you, if no one else has requested it) at a checkout desk.
  • An item has a hold on it. If another patron is waiting for an item, whether you have yet received any notification or not, it cannot be renewed. Often, fines are greater for items with holds, so it is important to return recalled items by the due date on the screen.
  • It is too soon to renew. Materials cannot be checked out and then instantly renewed; each item becomes eligible for renewal only as the due date approaches. For three-week and term loans, items may be renewed up to 7 days before the due date. For 6-month loans, an item may be renewed one month before it comes due. You do not lose any time by renewing before the due date; the renewal is effective from the date the item was due, not from the date you asked for it.
  • An item is checked out from another Orbis Cascade Alliance library: When you renew items checked out from other Orbis Cascade libraries, you will be notified that the renewal is pending. It takes a minute or two for the system to check back at the item's library to see whether there are any other holds on the book before it will allow a renewal. You must leave your patron record, then go back into it to see whether the item was renewed or denied.
