Non-circulating and Restricted Collections


Non-Circulating

Materials in Special Collections may not be checked out. They are available to all borrowers inside the library.

Reference collections include materials which must be used in the library.

Restricted Collections

Some collections are lent only to certain types of borrowers (e.g. faculty) or are lent for short loan periods to all borrowers.

Materials checked out from restricted collections have higher fine rates and may not be renewed.

The following collections have restricted loan periods (either by loan period or by borrower status).

  • Bound journals
    • from AAA, Knight, and Portland Architecture Libraries circulate to UO Faculty, students and staff for 3 days. UO Faculty and Graduate students may have one renewal. Fines:$5/day
    • Journals from Science, Math, OIMB circulate to UO Faculty and UO Graduate students for 7 days. UO undergraduates and staff may check out these journals for 3 days. Fines:$5/day
  • Douglass Room materials
    • Sound recordings circulate only to UO Faculty and GTFs for 7 days
    • Compact discs from the Douglass Circulating collection circulate to all borrowers for 7 days
  • Interlibrary Loans
    • Materials borrowed from other libraries circulate according the policy of the other library.
      Some material must be used on-site.
  • Juvenile and Curriculum Collections
    • These collections may be checked out to all borrowers for 14 days.
  • Media Services equipment circulates to current UO faculty, students and staff only. Some equipment circulates only to UO faculty and GTFs.
  • Orbis Cascade Alliance (materials in the Summit Catalog)
    • Summit materials circulate only to UO faculty, students and staff
    • The loan period for most of these materials is 21 days.
    • Some libraries lend items other than books from their general circulating collections: they may circulate for 3 days.
  • Reference Collections
    • Some materials from Reference Collections are lent to UO students, faculty and staff for 3 days.
  • Video Collection
    • Faculty and GTFs: 3 days, plus one renewal. Maximum six items at any time. Fines: $3/day
    • UO graduate and undergraduate students: 3 days, no renewals. Maximum three items at any time. Fines: $3/day
    • All other users may view material in the Viewing room only.
  • Reserve Collections
    • Loan periods vary from 2 hour in-library use only to 3 day checkouts
