Laptop printing to the AAA Library printers

This document assumes that you already have a network connection set up. For assistance in setting up a network connection see the Computing Center's wireless networking site.

AAA Library printers offer 8.5x11 inch and 11x17 inch output (8.5x11 only for black and white). For larger formats use the printers located at the AAA Output Room.

Color Printer Drivers

If your computer does not already have the proper drivers for the color printer (Ricoh MP C3000) you may downloading the appropriate driver from Ricoh's website: http://support.ricoh.com/bb/html/dr_ut_e/rc2/model/mpc25/mpc25en.htm

Setting up printers with Mac OS x

  1. Open the Printer Setup Utility (typically located in the Utilities subfolder of your Applications folder).
  2. In Printer Setup, click on the Add button
  3. Set the printer settings as follows

For color printing:

Caution : Do not print from Photoshop CS3 to the color printer. Due to bugs you will either need to save your PS jobs as PDFs, and then print from Preview, or enable TBC protocol for the print queue (details).

  • Select: IP Printer
  • Protocol (10.4): Line Printer Daemon - LPD
  • Printer's address: libprint.uoregon.edu
  • Queue Name: AAA_Color
  • Printer model: Ricoh
  • Model name : Ricoh MP C3000 (download from Ricoh if not available)

or black and white printing

  • Select: IP Printer
  • Protocol (10.4): Line Printer Daemon - LPD
  • Printer's address: libprint.uoregon.edu
  • Queue Name: AAA_BW
  • Printer model: HP
  • Model name : HP LaserJet 4350dtn

Windows XP

  1. Select Printers and Faxes from the Start menu (may be under the Settings submenu).
  2. Click on the Add Printer icon to launch the Add Printer Wizard. This will step you through a series of dialogue boxes.
  3. Select Local printer and deselect the "Automatically detect..." option
  4. Create a new port, of type "Standard TCP/IP Port":
  5. Next, type in the IP Address and port name
    • IP address: libprint.uoregon.edu
    • Port name (for black and white) : IP_libprint.uoregon.edu_BW
    • Port name (for color) : IP_libprint.uoregon.edu_CLR
  6. Select the Custom option in the next window, and click the Settings button:
  7. Configure settings information like the image at right (Portname and Queue Name is different for color), using LPR protocol with LPR Byte Counting enabled. and press OK:
    • Black and white : Portname is ip_libprint.uoregon.edu_bw, Queue name is AAA_BW
    • Color : Portname is ip_libprint.uoregon.edu_clr, Queue name is AAA_Color
  8. To select the proper drivers, for the manufacturer and printer select:
    • Black and white : HP; LaserJet 4350dtn
    • Color : Ricoh; MP C3000 (download from Ricoh if not available)
  9. Now, change the printer name as instructed (e.g. AAA_LIB_BW or AAA_LIB_COLOR)
  10. Choose the option to do not share this printer.
  11. Do not print a test page.
