The Visual Resources Collection (VRC) of the Architecture and Allied Arts Library supports the teaching needs of the University of Oregon with images of cultural objects.
Since 2005, the VRC has been developing the Art and Architecture Images database, a collection of digital images to support instruction and research. In addition to images created by VRC staff or acquired through vendors, the library subscribes to ARTstor, a database nearly 1,000,000 images, associated records, and viewing tools.
The slide collection was organized in the 1940s and now includes approximately 340,000 cataloged slides. Among the VRC's unique gift collections are approximately 60,000 slides that are currently being processed. Notable among them are the collections of Marion Dean Ross, covering world architecture, and Michael Shellenbarger, focusing on historic preservation.
The VRC also houses a collection of over 6,000 mounted photographs of architecture, ceramics and sculpture available for viewing and check-out.
